Aquarium - Napier

Aquarium - Napier

Standing on the foreshore of Napier's Marine Parade in the shape of a huge steel Stingray, the National Aquarium of New Zealand is one of the most popular attractions in the Hawke's Bay region. The moving walkway gives you a close up view of the marine life as you travel under the Oceanarium which houses over 1500 fish, a huge variety of crustaceans and some scary looking sharks.

If you are really brave you can swim freely with the Sharks and the National Aquarium is the only place in New Zealand where you can do this. It costs just $60 including gear and is a great ‘once in a lifetime’ experience or gift. Kids can do it too but the Under 15s need to be accompanied by a swimming adult.

Upstairs you will find Kiwis and Tuatara and a whole host of other interesting exhibits including Terrapins, Sea Horses and Eels.
