Waimairi Beach

This wide sweep of clean sand is part of the long beach sweeping north along Pegasus Bay, from Southshore Spit to the Brooklands Lagoon. The beach is patrolled during summer, and strong tidal rips make it essential to swim between the lifeguards' flags. During winter months, the beach is frequently deserted making it a superb location for a contemplative walk. Behind the beach, screened by tussock sand dunes and surrounded by tall pine trees, is a large adventure playground with a flying fox for daredevils, along with picnic tables, toilets, changing sheds and fresh water.
