Mihingo Lodge

Entebbe/Kampala, Uganda

Back to Detail Page

MIHINGO LODGE

Mihingo is a luxurious, family owned lodge in a magical setting adjacent to Lake Mburo National Park. Perched high on a rocky kopje, whose pre-Cambrian granite boulders were formed over 500 million years ago, it has spectacular views over a vast savannah landscape.  Designed to blend in with its fragile surroundings, this environmentally friendly lodge offers comfort, relaxation and the experience of being at one with nature.

An infinity pool overlooks the valley below where buffalo, eland, impala, warthogs, bush buck and zebra can be seen at the waterhole.  On the rocks you may have the rare chance of seeing the resident family of Klipspringers.  We cannot guarantee that you will see a leopard, but on a night game drive you do have a good chance. As Rungwe Kingdon (the son of the well-known wildlife author, Jonathan Kingdon, and one of Mihingo’s guests) once told us “I have seen more leopards in Lake Mburo National Park than any other park in East Africa”. To further enhance your experience of wild Africa, Mihingo is the only lodge in Uganda to offer daytime and overnight horse safaris into the national park. The only regret that many of our guests have is that they wish they had booked to stay longer than only a night or two. We hope this website will help you to see how many wonderful things there are to do when you stay at Mihingo Lodge.

Room

Mihingo Lodge has 12 luxury, tented rooms designed to provide guests with privacy and tranquillity. Each room has its own unique charm and character, whether it is nestled in forest, overlooking the lake, perched on a rocky outcrop or down by the water hole. Although no two rooms are the same, Suni and Ralph have ensured they all share stunning views and provide guests with a light and airy sanctuary and a feeling of being alone in the bush. Each spacious canvas tent is equipped with en-suite bathrooms, hot and cold running water, showers, and flush loos. The rooms have been sensitively designed to complement the local environment with great attention to detail. The doorways are framed by stunning pieces of dead olive wood found on the land. The outside walls reflect the colours of the African soil, created with the help of a specialist from Lamu who mixed natural coloured pigments into the cement. Several of the rooms dramatically incorporate the granite boulders into the design of the bathrooms. As an environmentally friendly lodge all the lights are solar powered and each room has its own solar powered water heater. Bush Buck and Impala have their own salt lick allowing guests to sit on their balcony and watch animals come and go. Buffalo and Water Hole rooms are situated down on the grassy plain, near the water. They are the furthest rooms from the lodge but they are very private and closer to the animals. We offer early morning tea or coffee brought to your room so you can take in the surrounding nature sitting on your spacious veranda before going for breakfast, a game drive or any of our other activity.

Dining

Dine with a view over the park and beyond and then relax in the bar area with sofas curved around the existing granite rock. The lodge has a fantastic reputation for good food too - thanks to Suni's wonderful mother Sarah, who trained the local Mihingo chefs how to make exceptional recipes!
