Destination Overview

One of the world’s best kept travel secrets are the astonishing islands of Seychelles. With beautiful white sands, intriguing wildlife and some of the best hiking and ecology in Africa, it didn’t take too long for tourism to grow in this little sunny paradise. Now, Seychelles holidays are among the most popular and desirable getaways in the world.

Exotically located in the Indian Ocean off the east coast of Africa, holidays in Seychelles will have visitors feeling not only relaxed, but also enjoying the chance for seclusion from the big busy cities we call home on a daily basis. The main islands of Seychelles that locals call home and most popular for tourism are Mahé, La Digue and Praslin. The country’s capital, Victoria, is found on Mahé and is the main port for visitors to begin their Seychelles holiday.

Every island holiday promises beautiful beaches allowing for sun baking, tanning and cooling off in clear waters. A holiday to Seychelles will see visitors enjoying all of the usual island perks but also offers a unique beach experience at Anse Source d’Argent. Found at La Digue, this beach boasts remarkable pink sands and is surrounded by canyon style boulders. Anse Source d’Argent is an amazing sight to see for all travellers and is especially popular for families with young children, as its waters are not only crystal clear but also incredibly shallow. The marvels don’t stop there either, a Seychelles holiday is one of the most awe filled trips you will ever experience with the natural wonders spread out across 100+ islands that make up the nation. Aldabra Atoll is one of the other biggest tourist attractions. The circular reef made up of four coral islands encompasses a large lagoon, and with its incredible seclusion from the rest of the world, is home to the biggest population of the Giant Land Tortoise. The atoll is accessible by boat or yacht, however, you must receive authorization to visit. To retain its unique wonders, the atoll is strictly accessible only to those who have followed the authority’s procedures, so don’t miss out! Look into the Aldabra Atoll before you travel.

Holidays to Seychelles are arguably one of the best destinations for a luxurious getaway. Welcoming the most honeymooners than any other African country, and being home to the most expensive resorts in the entire world, it’s easy to see why so many couples choose Seychelles for their romantic escape. Mahé boasts the most options for your stay, with expensive beach resorts and smaller budget accommodations in the capital of Victoria. Holiday goers that are looking for more of a night life atmosphere are recommended to stay close to the capital to take advantage of the bars and of course, the most famous club in all of the country, Lovenut. Travellers looking for a relaxed stay amongst the wilderness will also find themselves staying in the prestigious resorts that line the sands of La Digue and Praslin.

Seychelles Island

Seychelles boasts a beautiful year round temperature ranging from about 24°C up to 30°C, making it a desirable travel destination no matter what season it is. The hotter months are from May to October and rarely see temperatures above the average 30°C.

November through until March are the cooler months, but with the humidity and temperatures in the mid-twenties, you wouldn’t know it. A holiday in Seychelles wouldn’t be a true tropical wonderland without a bit of rain. December to February will have the most rainfall, however, still experience that warm consistent island temperature.

Even in the hottest months of Seychelles seasons, the weather is remarkably bearable with a top of 30°C. Perfect for a honeymoon when you and your partner want nothing more than to enjoy each other’s company in the serene, tropical, and wild environment Seychelles has to offer. IF you find yourself in Seychelles during late October, make sure to get involved in The Creole Festival which is held for three days and showcases all the authentic foods of Seychelles. Visit Beau Vallon, famous for its fine white sands and panoramic views or enjoy the 65 beaches Mahé has to offer. Romantic dinners at the various restaurants along the shores are great after long days wading in the crystal clear waters, and to witness the beautiful African sunsets. Seychelles, proudly home to leading world class resorts, offers many upscale and 5-star dining experiences on the three main tourist islands.

The cooler months are perfect for hiking the several routes found on Mahé. With varying difficulty levels, the more difficult hikes are best enjoyed in this climate as it is much milder with cool breezes. Seychelles holidays are also popular for lovers of golf and for those who enjoy bike riding through the steep and rocky wilderness. With large golf courses on the three main islands, Seychelles has become popular with retirees over the past decade. Horse riding along the beaches has also become incredibly popular as well as various racquet sports such as tennis and squash, with courts found at almost every resort.

The rain falls hard in Seychelles, however, the season only lasts for three months and the rainfall itself is quite brief. The wet season is still a very busy time for Seychelles as it is during the Christmas/New Year holiday season. February holds the International Carnival of Victoria, which is one of the biggest celebrations in the country. From daily parades to nightlife events, the three day carnival showcases the history and culture of Seychelles through all forms of entertainment.  Often a popular time for tourists to visit on Charters, with boats docking in at many of the islands to allow visitors to cruise the country and experience all that the smaller islands have to offer between the brief rain showers.
